Just wanted to let all know about my parents: Casimir (Casey) & Esther Segal.
My dad served with the T&O unit, my folks were always eager to go to the reunions. Last one they went to, was probably in 2002, since in Nov '02, my mom had a brain aneurysm (day after their 50th annniv!) and had surgery & extensive rehab. She now lives in Lifecare Nursing Home (3405 N. Campbell, Valparaiso, IN 46383), doing fine mentally, but physically disabled. My dad was doing fine, until end of June 2007, when he fell & broke his femur right below his hipjoint. He is now in the same nursing home. Sad to say, he is very weak & just tired...It is sad to see... I came across this site and decided to write this. I know he was a PROUD Veteran & made sure all us kids KNEW it! He said of WW2: "I was one of the lucky ones...I came home"... Truly one of the greatest generation! Lived a hard childhood (lots of siblings, worthless dad, hardworking immigrant mother), thru the Depression, and served in the war at an age when today's young males are still 'growing up'...came home to be the best husband & dad, never complained, treated my mom like a queen, never HIT us kids, worked & did the best he could...I hide the tears when I see him now. He is 82, and enjoyed a good life, saw grandchildren & even ONE grandkid!! He would love hearing from anyone from his time spent in the Army. |
