Ronald R. McClure, 94, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Wathena Healthcare & Rehab in Wathena, Kan.

Ronald was born on November 23, 1919, in Breckenridge, Mo., to Burnett and Alma Ann (Moore) McClure. He was drafted March of 1942, serving in World War II in the Army. He was awarded five bronze stars for Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe and a Purple Heart.

When he returned home from the war, he worked at Swift, retiring and then purchasing the American Tavern, which him and his wife, Katie owned and operated until 1977. He was a member of the 90th Infantry Division Association, the VFW, and lifetime member of Swift Independent Union.

He married Katie Church on September 10, 1947, in St. Joseph at Wyatt Park Christian Church. She preceded him in death July 12, 2004.

Ronald was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Surviving family includes grandson, Bart Watts; and granddaughter, Stephanie Watts, of St. Joseph; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.

Service: 10 a.m. Monday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment: Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 12 p.m. Sunday, at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.
