Alfredo Serrato Trinidad passed away at his La Puente residence on Sunday, Aug. 10.[2014] He was 95 years of age.

He was born in Mexico but came to Los Angeles County more than 70 years ago. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was very proud to have served with the 90th Infantry Division and was part of the Normandy invasion. Late in life he would attend reunions with other survivors. He was also a guest speaker at the Chaffey College history class covering World War II. He was proud to be a Mexican American and wanted his grandchildren to know what a special meaning that had for him. From 1950 to 1973, he was the sole proprietor of Alís Barber Shop on 3rd Street in East Los Angeles. Later, from 1973 until retirement, he worked for Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation and supervised the maintenance at Belvedere Park, often running into old patrons from the nearby neighborhood.

He leaves behind his wife, Dora Cuenca Trinadad of La Puente, and his only daughter, Mary Andrea Sandoval (Ezequiel) of Rialto. His surviving siblings, Lupe Trinidad, John Trinidad and Esperanza Ayala, all are from Arizona. And there are 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren missing him as well. His son, Alfred Trinidad Jr., preceded him in death three years ago.

Al was laid to rest with full military honors at Riverside National Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 18. Dickey Mortuary, Fontana, was in charge of arrangements.
