Notes from the President

March 20, 2012

90th Division Association Members;

Greetings!  I am somewhat behind in writing updates, from what I initially thought was a good idea.  However, now is better than waiting.

I have to open with a sad note.  I just learned that Joe Engle passed away recently.  Joe will be greatly missed, he has been more than just a loyal supporter of the Association, he was one of those who would answer the call to assist where ever or whenever it was needed.  The newsletter will have much more on Joe.

First  I would like to note that a member is currently serving in Afghanistan,  Newly promoted LTC Wendy Rodgers.     I don't know what her assignment is, but she had served as the HQ Commondant and PAO of the 90th RSG.   She is due back in October.  We congratulate her and wish her well.

Second, there was a change of command for the 90thSustainment Bde on the 3rd of March.  COL Peter Malik turned over the reins to COL David Hammons.  We welcome his arrival.
CPT Heather Roelker, who is the Commander for the 343rdMobile Public Affairs Det.  The 90th Sustainment Bde is the higher HQ.  She has agreed to help with getting the word out to the various Reserve units who have worn the TO patch.  Thank you!

Norm Richards has indicated he would offer a tour of the JFK Assassination sites in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.   He did this in 2008 after the reunion was over.   There would be a cost involved in order to pay for a bus.  If anyone is interested you can either contact me or Norm Richards. The best window for such a tour seems to be Saturday morning.

Another thought I had would be to create a collage of all the various monuments that are associated with the 90th Division and legacy units.  So I am looking for good quality photos (digits) of these monuments.  I know of the ones at Fort Sam Houston, Utah Beach, Periers, a couple in the vicinity of Hill 122,  the Mosel  River crossing site, and Fort Kronismacher.   There are some others in the Normandy area and also the Mosel Area.    If anyone has good pictures, please send them to me with a note as to where it is located.  I thought such a collage would be good for both the Museum in Fort Worth and the Heritage Center in Little Rock.

Another  thought  I have had in the back of my mind, is to research the flags of the 90th Division and the legacy units that followed.  It would be nice to have the different flags as a back drop to all our events.  Any input this would be helpful.

Remember, you can make reservations for the reunion (August2- 5)  now.
