My late father-in-law was Captain Robert Proebstel, who was the CO of C company 357th Inf, when it landed on Utah Beach on June 8. He was wounded July 8, 1944, after being shot below the knee by a German Burp Gun. He was in the hospital in England until he was released for active duty on Christmas Eve, 1944, when he became 3rd BN Executive officer under Lt. Colonel dePugh.  about 10 days later, he went north with the 90th to the bulge. He continued as Bn. exec. through the rest of the war and into Czechoslovakia. He was wounded once more and was awarded two bronze stars and a silver star. He returned to Eastern Oregon where he became a cattle rancher.
