My late father-in-law
was Captain Robert Proebstel, who was the CO of C company 357th Inf, when
it landed on Utah Beach on June 8. He was wounded July 8, 1944, after
being shot below the knee by a German Burp Gun. He was in the hospital in
England until he was released for active duty on Christmas Eve, 1944, when
he became 3rd BN Executive officer under Lt. Colonel dePugh. about 10
days later, he went north with the 90th to the bulge. He continued as Bn.
exec. through the rest of the war and into Czechoslovakia. He was wounded
once more and was awarded two bronze stars and a silver star. He returned
to Eastern Oregon where he became a cattle rancher. by son-in-law Don Seymour
