Harry A. Mullen

Co. “D”, 358th

Harry A. Mullen was born in Montgomery County, Iowa on 31 July 1917 on the family farm where he lived until he entered the service on 24 March 1942 at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa. 

He was then assigned to Co. “D”, 358th Inf, 90th Div., at Camp Barkeley, near Abilene, Texas.

He left with the 90th Division from Ft. Dix, New Jersey, arriving overseas on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944.

His unit went to Normandy on D-Day+2.  He participated in the Campaigns in the Rhineland, Ardennes, Normandy and North France, all with the 90th Division.

He did occupational duty in Czechoslovakia.  Later he was assigned to Headquarters Service Troop, 23rd Cavalry Recon. Squadron in the European Theatre for his return to the states.

He arrived back in the states in October 1945.  He was discharged on 21 October 1945 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

He was discharged as Staff Sergeant.  Harry was awarded 4 Bronze Campaign Stars, Purple Heart for wounds received in action in France, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He returned to the family farm in 1951, purchasing it in 1956 and remained there until his retirement.  In 1986 the farm was designated a “Century Farm”.

Harry passed away on 22 September 1994 following a lengthy illness.
